We didn't do a very good job of photographing the partial eclipse tonight, but we did have fun watching. For the record, the pinhole camera is nearly worthless. We finally did figure out how to use our binoculars to project a reasonably good view of the sun with a bite out of it. If I were watching again, I'd have some sort of tripod mounted telescope with a camera set to take time lapse photos. That would have been cool! :-)

I'd like to add that the pinhole viewer wasn't totally useless. It just made a smaller projection of the eclipse that was nearly impossible to take pictures of.
The binoculars were far superior, though.
Their projection of the eclipse onto the shadow of the binoculars made the shape of a very cool cartoony-looking shadow puppet. The radioactive eclipse eyes made it look like an evil Pixar creation.
Awesome, you guys!!!!! Thank you for taking pictures. :) Did it get colder outside? Did the birds get all quiet? We want more details!
We didn't see much difference in the general atmosphere of our front yard. This might have been because of the slight coverage of the sun. Our pictures were taken at maximum coverage so there wasn't much to be seen with the naked eye on the ground. I didn't notice any birds growing eerily silent, but then again at that time. The temperature remained constant in the high 70s. Generally, the lighting did change a bit, giving the hedges and flowers a slightly bronze glow for an hour much akin to that brief moment before a sunset throws pink light onto the earth. It was like a sunset frozen to elongate that last moment of living light before fading through the spectrum to dusk. That was probably the best part of the whole afternoon. I'll not see anything like that for quite some time.
